Reflection

Hello everyone.. Oscar here again.

Out of the blue, I decided to take some snap shots at a beach.
Bought an applier bikini for my mesh body and went right to my private beach.

The bikini I'm wearing now is nothing out of the ordinary.

Throw back 1

Hello everyone. Oscar here again.

Throw back from older postings.
There were many pictures I want to share with you.
I wish I have time to take these kind of pictures again.

Finding the right spot to take snapshots.
Selecting the sky and water settings.
Adjusting sun/moon angel.

I love doing all this but it is just time consuming and if there is one thing I don't have, that would be time...

I selected 10 pictures I want to bring back from the past.
I think I will do some more of this not only to share those pictures with you but also as a reminder to myself that I should be able to do equivalent or better job than this.

Evolution

Hello everyone. Oscar here again.
I often go away from Second Life from time to time when RL becomes too busy but I am a long term Second Life resident.
I have seen how things were in the past.
I have seen how things evolved.
I’m seeing how things are now.

When I started Second Life, the overall graphic quality was very poor comparing to what we see now.
Ocean and sky looked so dull because there were no windlight or atmospheric shader settings.

Sun and moon light didn’t create shadows.
Clothes looked like well-drawn body paintings because it was just textures applied to avatar.

Second Life with no windlight. clothing were textures and prim attachments.

Back those days, it was all about how well you can draw textures.
Later on, prim attachment became a trend.
Collar and cuffs made of prim was the first things creator started adding to their products.
After the implementation of sculpted prim, not only apparel but the whole building and creating came to a turning point.
Creators started creating not only Collar, cuffs, and hems but also Jackets and even hair out of sculpted prim.
The down side of sculpted prim was slow loading.
People were looking ridiculous while sculpted prims were loading because while it is loading, it was nothing more than a bunch of sphere.
LOD setting was also an issue.
SL viewer with low LOD setting didn’t show sculpted prim well.
Zooming out from sculpted prim caused it to even disappear.
In a laggy sim, I often turn my settings low. I saw many people bald and naked.
Avatar physics was introduced to second life.
All the girls were having fun jiggling boobs and guys were staring at them.
Avatar physics fever didn’t last that long because the implementation of mesh was so sensational.
Jiggling boobs were protruding from mesh clothes, so girls had to give up the jiggle.
Creator of second life was trying to figure out how to go about the size of the clothes.
Each avatar is unique and it is impossible to please everyone with the mesh product.
Mesh was non-resizable.
Soon after, creators started using a “standard sizing” to create mesh clothes.
If I remember correctly, there are total of 5 sizes ranging from XXS to L (XXS, XS, S, M, and L).
Each size has specific figures to what certain body parts size should be.
“Standard sizing” cleared up problems of not being able to wear mesh clothes, but it has killed the uniqueness or avatar.

No mesh clothes yet, but windlight and advanced light settings were implemented.

Finally long waited fitted mesh was introduced to Second Life.
Mesh became resizable.
Body or a body parts made of mesh was already becoming popular, but the real popularity in Mesh body became evident after the implementation of fitted mesh.
Wowmeh was popular fitted mesh body, but unfortunately it disappeared due to copyright dispute.
It’s not like I’ve done a research, but SLINK physique and Maitreya Lara is probably the most popular fitted mesh body now.
Girls can giggle their boobs again with latest mesh products because avatar physics can be applied to fitted mesh.
Now clothing follows the movement of avatar.
We no longer see skirts going through our legs anymore.
Fitted mesh brought uniqueness back to avatars.

present day

So what’s next?

This is my opinion as a resident of Second Life who enjoys shopping and fashion.
Mesh is all good and fitted mesh, even better.
The only thing that bothers me is a lack of “flexibility “especially when wearing long or flared skirts.
Mesh skirts looks like as if wearing a plastic armor in a shape of skirt.
If Flexi skirt that does not go through avatar when worn can be created/invented, this could be the greatest invention in Second Life.
