This and That
Hello everyone. Oscar here again.
There are few things I wanted to write about
I could have separate the articles into few
but I decided to just write everything here.
I have heard that Phoenix/Firestorm Viewer is starting to block the older versions.
I went to their webpage and read their article.
A little harsh, but can't say they are wrong.
People seeing things differently depending on sky and graphic setting is already somewhat scary.
You have all the settings just right for your avatar to look gorgeous, but if other people has their setting differently, the way you look to them is totally different.
But
Being a resident of Second Life for quite sometime, I kind of got used to the idea and accepted it as something tolerable
I did keep my viewers up-to-date so I do not know how things would look for the people who are using outdated one. As a matter of fact, It did not occur to me that there are people who can not see mesh or sees avatar all gray.
I'm currently using Hybrid avatar.
Neck and above is mesh and body is regular avi.
If what I imagine is correct, then some people were seeing me as gray avatar with no head...
So, why would some people prefer older version?
I can come up with two reason.
1) preference of user interface.
2)PC specification
for 1), latest Firestorm has a setting that would make the interface look like phoenix so I would assume this won't be much of the problem.
for 2) Most likely have to buy new PC or upgrade PC with faster graphic card.
But I came to think that how many people would be using PC with Windows 98 or ME.
Those are so outdated that many software and hardware won't work with it anymore.
Windows XP? I'm sure there are people still using XP.
I own few PC and one of it is Windows XP PC.
Below is specification of my XP PC
System
Microsoft Windows XP
Home Edition
Version 2002
Service Pack 3
Computer
Intel (R) Core(TM2) Quad CPU
Q9550 @ 2.8GHz
2.83 GHz, 3.25 RAM
Graphic Card
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 460
Not a cutting edge latest PC at all.
I did upgrade the graphic card and added some RAM
but those upgrades are bonded to the limitation of the Operating system.
anyway
I logged into Second Life with this PC, kept the setting to right around mid.
took few snapshots, edited picture at free online picture editing site.
I used Official Linden Lab's Second Life viewer this time.

These pictures may not look so realistic like the once taken using faster PC with Nirans Viewer.
But I it is good enough to enjoy the world of second life and take snapshots.
Mesh is showing properly and avatar is not gray.
Maybe all it takes is flexibility to adopt to new viewer and a little investment to upgrade PC.
Oh. Bye the way.
I forgot to mention one thing about a clothes I bought at Blueberry.
Their latest release which is the one I'm wearing in above snapshots.
It also comes with Lola Tango Applier.
If you are Lola Tangos fan, this clothes can definitely be one of the choice.
